The house is ideally situated between two recently designated World Heritage Sites - the exciting Jurassic Coast and the historic tin mining centres of Cornwall and West Devon. The Dart and Tamar rivers are close for canoeists; mountain bikers seek out moorland bridleways and Sustrans cycle routes; golfers have three courses very close, riding is available at two friendly centres and walkers can reach the nearest tor within the hour, straight off the property. Contact details are also available for lake and sea fishing, ballooning, climbing/abseiling, quad-biking, clay pigeon shooting, 4x4 instruction, paintballing, canoeing, caterers, birthday cakes, good food pubs, and even mini bus and limo rental. If you don't see what you want, ask, and Ian will hopefully find it for you! Horrabridge, once a tin-mining village, is within easy walking distance and has most things, including baker, newsagent, post office, Methodist and Anglican churches, barber, vet, fish & chip shop, late store, video rentals, two excellent food pubs, and a hardware shop that sells everything else! |

The old mining village of Horrabridge on the River Walkham |
Plymouth , with all its seafaring traditions, cinemas, theatres and National Marine Aquarium is ten miles away, with historic Exeter , the county town, easily reached across Dartmoor within the hour; going west only six miles puts you in Cornwall . Even closer, the busy town of Tavistock(just named, best food town in the Westcountry 2006) embraces an arts centre and cinema, swimming pool, tennis courts, river park, big Morrisons, colourful pannier market, Tourist Information, and several good restaurants and specialist shops. Everyone should sample Dartmoor during their stay, first enlightened by Princetown's High Moorland Visitor Centre – picnic at the quiet reservoirs, marvel at Lydford Gorge's White Lady waterfall, conquer a few of the majestic tors in the footsteps of the tinners, relive some of the legends that inspired Conan Doyle or simply head for a cosy village pub with the Sunday papers. Add to that four National Trust properties, spectacular flower gardens, steam railway, mining museum and port, and empty, hidden South Hams beaches, and one has most things for a perfect stay. The weather, meanwhile, goes with the territory and could change in the time it takes to read this!
